Naval force salvages 2-month old child, 11 others from suffocating in Rivers

The Nigerian Navy in Port Harcourt says it protected a two-month-old infant and 11 others from suffocating in Ngo waters in Rivers.

Lt. Ernest Jim, Base Information Officer, Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Pathfinder, Port Harcourt, made the exposure on Friday.

He said troops on routine watch of the waters located an inverted boat and promptly interceded to protect the 12 passengers.

“The boat disaster occurred at around 1330 hours on Thursday, March 28 around Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) Map Jetty in Ngo, Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers.

“It is satisfying to express that every one of the 11 travelers and the infant were saved with no setback recorded,” he said.

Jim said the safeguarded passengers were later taken to a close-by NLNG restorative office for examination.

The Navy representative said that primer examination demonstrated that the boat was stacked above limit, exhorting administrators against taking passengers past the limit of their boats.
